A Liverpool taxi Driver has launched an appeal to restore and maintain the grave of "Eleanor Rigby" in St Peter's churchyard in Woolton.
Jay Johnson, an owner-driver with Fab Cabs has been taking visitors to see the Beatles sites of Liverpool for many years.
But after growing tired of bringing guests to the run-down grave of Eleanor, Jay decided to take matters into his own hands.
He said: "It has become embarrassing, showing visitors Eleanor Rigby’s grave because it's in such a poor state.
"People expect to see a well cared-for grave and that is not the case."
Now Jay, who is brother of local music legend Holly Johnson has been granted permission by the Parish Council to raise money to restore the memorial.
He added: "I'm delighted we have the chance to restore the grave.
"I wanted to do it for next month for Beatles day but I don’t think there is enough time.
"We will be working hard to raise funds so we can have it done for next year.
"It is not going to cost great deal of money so it's well worth it and obviously if people could put flowers on the grave from time to time that would be nice."
*Eleanor Rigby, written by Paul McCartney, was a number 1 for The Beatles in 1966.
It was taken from their album Revolver and recorded at Abbey Road Studios.
In November 2008 a document that Paul McCartney had donated to the Sunbeams Music Trust and containing the signature of a 16-year-old scullery maid 'E Rigby' sold at auction for £110.000.
Added Jay: "Apart from Eleanor Rigby's, there is also the grave of Liverpool Football Club's most successful Manager Bob Paisley at St Peter's.
"When sports fans visit to pay their respects to Bob, many of them want to see Eleanor Rigby's grave as well."
Anyone wishing to make a donation may do so in collection boxes that are available in St Peters Church and also The Hard Days Night Hotel Shop on Mathew Street.
