A Hula Hoop proposal has led to a spectacular wedding that will take place in Chester this Saturday.

Cheshire girl Jennie Donnachie dreamed of marrying her boyfriend Paul Tucker but never could have imagined his unique proposal and fabulous Hilton wedding.

Fiance Paul, a local postie, had planned everything down to the last detail when it came to proposing to local dance teacher Jennie last October.

He had organised the Halloween party at their house in Helsby but unbeknown to Jennie it was actually an engagement party.

Traditional man Paul had asked her father’s permission and he’d taken her late grandmother’s ring to be re-sized at the jewellers so it was ready when he popped the big question.

But disaster struck when on the morning of the party the ring hadn’t arrived and Paul was told that it wouldn’t be ready until the following week.

Paul says: “I panicked and had to think on my feet. We had people arriving later in the afternoon ready for an engagement party and I hadn’t popped the question!

“We live near Helsby Hill and that’s where we walk our dog so I grabbed a packet of Hula Hoops, put Ruby (the dog) on her lead and ushered Jennie out of the house.”

Jennie says: “I couldn’t understand Paul’s behaviour that morning he was acting so strangely. Even the fact that we were up the hill at 8am in the morning and Paul was eating crisps was very out of the ordinary.

“When he got down on one knee at the top and asked me to marry him I couldn’t believe it! I still can’t believe that I said yes when the Hula Hoop that he offered me was very obviously my ring!”

From a humble Hula Hoop start the couple have certainly made up for things with a spectacular wedding planned at the Doubletree by Hilton Chester this weekend.

After having a ceremony at the church at Ashton Hays the bridal party will be transported to the luxury Doubletree wedding venue by vintage bus.

Upon arrival they will receive a red carpet champagne reception, and guests will be treated to a packet of Hula Hoops, as well as other Hula Hoop reminders throughout the day!

Claire Laird, Wedding and Events Coordinator at the Doubletree, says: “Jennie and Paul are a fantastic couple, it’s been great to work with them organising their big day.

“Here at Doubletree we like to get involved and make sure that the bride and groom have those extra special touches that make their day unique. The adage of Hula Hoop touches is a first but it is great and sums up the fun spirit of the couple.”

Jennie says: “We can’t wait to welcome all of our friends and family to the Doubletree for our reception we know that everyone’s going to love it!

“We’re both really excited about this weekend and have incorporated Hula Hoops into the day because we know that the potato snack will always have special meaning for us both now!”
