Barman John Aston has been formally named by police as the driver of a car that crashed in Cheshire at the weekend with the loss of four lives.

The four died when a blue Vauxhall Tigra hit a tree at an accident blackspot on the A540 Chester High Road, near Neston, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The dead have been officially named as the driver John David Aston 19, Michaela Louise Favager, 19, a front seat passenger, Gill Fowle, 43 a rear seat passenger and Ed Smith, 19, a rear seat passenger. All came from the village of Neston.

Photographs of each of the victims were released through Cheshire Police.

The blue Vauxhall Tigra, was travelling towards Wirral when the accident happened at about 2am, close to the junction of The Runnel.

The car was severely damaged in the crash and came to rest on its roof at a spot about a hundred yards down the road from a sign warning 59 accidents had happened in 3 years.

A spokesman from Cheshire Police said: "We are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry but we have not yet established the cause of the accident.

"We would very much like to hear from anyone who witnessed the accident or who passed the scene in the immediate aftermath of the impact."

John Aston worked at the Brewer's Arms pub in Neston along with mother-of-three Gill Fowle.

Plasterer Ed Smith and supermarket worker Michaela Favager were their friends.

An inquest into the deaths is expected to be opened in Wirral in Thursday.

Facebook tributes to the four are expanding.

"You have left some brokenhearted people behind," Lindsey Forshaw wrote for Michaela, who also used the surname "Weir".

Other tributes on the RIP Michaela page described her as someone who was always happy.

Robyn Goodridge posted: "No matter when I saw you out you were always smiling having a good time."

Driver Mr Aston was a "genuine lad", according to some of the hundreds of comments.

A friend calling himself Matt B added: "RIP John, you will be sadly missed by all matey, such a loss and shock to us as you were such a gentle, fun-loving guy with a heart of gold."

A similar page has been created for 19-year-old Mr Smith for whom Jay Stone from Liverpool vowed: "Gone but never forgotten mate".

Charlotte Byron added: "Absolutely gutted, can't believe this has happened to such a lovely person."
