A 56-year old-man was stabbed by a gang of masked raiders who burst into his home in West Derby.
Three men concealed their faces with masks as they forced their way into the house in Exford Road, in the early hours of the morning.
The man was taken to hospital after suffering a deep cut to his arm and a graze to his head. His injuries are not said to be life threatening.
It is understood that a struggle broke out between the man and the intruders before the burglars fled the property empty handed.
Det Insp Rob Hill, of Liverpool north CID, said: “Officers attended the property just before 1am this morning following reports of an assault.
“The 56-year-old man, believed to be the occupant of the house, was taken to hospital with a graze to his head and a deep cut on his arm. His injuries are not life threatening.
“It would appear the three men in the house gained entry through a window in the kitchen.
“We are looking at whether this was a burglary gone wrong.
“We will be speaking to the victim today and carrying out inquiries in the area.”
Police are appealing for witnesses, or for anyone with inforemation about the three men, who were all dressed in dark clothing.
