Steven Gerrard case adjourned overnight

A judge has adjourned the trial of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard over an allegation of causing an affray.

Married father-of-two, Gerrard attended Liverpool Crown Court in a charcoal grey suit, white shirt and a grey striped tie.

But the trial itself never got under way since the day was taken-up with discussion over legal points between barristers and other legal representatives.

The England player is accused of being involved in a nightclub fight that injured Southport businessman Marcus McGee, 34 in the early hours of 29th December last year.

Mr McGee suffered multiple injuries including, a head wound which needed four stitches, a black eye and lost a tooth in the fracas.

Gerrard, 28, was out with pals in The Lounge Inn wine bar at Southport, celebrating Liverpool's 5-1 defeat of Newcastle United, when trouble flared.

Six other men who also face similar charges. They are are ian gerrard Smith, 19 of Hilary Avenue, Dovecot John doran, 29, of Woodlands Road, Huyton; John McGrattan, 34, of Rimmer Avenue, Huyton, Paul McGrattan, 31, of Linden Drive, Huyton.

Also charged with affray are Accrington Stanley players Robert Grant, 19, of Enstone Avenue, Litherland, and goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin, 29, of Guildford Road, Southport.

Recorder of Liverpool Henry Globe QC adjourned the hearing until 10-30am on Tuesday 21st July and made a Section 4 Order prohibiting reporting of any of the preliminary proceedings.
