A 200ft crane collapsed on top of a new apartment block two days ago in the city centre and over the past few days, a small health and safety crew came to survey the damage.

Oddly, all of Merseyside’s specialist fire officers who deal with complex and extremely dangerous situations were all out of town when the crane collapsed.

The crew have decided that it is safe to try and remove the crane and counter-balance, so, this morning two gigantic rescue cranes entered the city to begin removing the crane.

Once the crane has been removed along with the counter-balance, an intensive search will be carried out in the wreckage by rescue teams to check if everyone got out of the building safely.

Hundreds of people had to be evacuated from nearby buildings and will have to stay away for at least a week as city surveyors fear that there may be structural damage to the foundations.

This has caused major problems for some people in the building who work from home as they will not be able to get back in for over a week.
