A family man who was murdered with a high-powered 4x4 car died just an hour before his 33rd birthday.

Liverpool fan Frankie Molyneux, 32, died from multiple injuries when a Land Rover Discovery smashed into him in Kensington area of Liverpool.

Police believe the 2.4 tonne car knocked him down less than 90 minutes after he was involved in a confrontation with a gang of youths.

Officers were called to the scene by an ambulance crew who tended to the victim in Holt Road, at around 10.20 pm on Thursday 2nd July.

Father-of-five Frankie was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital with injuries to his head, chest and and legs.

Doctors battled for 24-hours to save his life but he died at 11pm on Friday - just an hour before his 33rd birthday.

Detectives are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed Frankie being knocked down or the earlier argument.

A shrine of mementos, including birthday balloons, banners and cards were laid close to Frankie's home.

His partner Keeley taped a card to a lamppost next to Liverpool scarf and rosette which said: "I will never forget you. I will always keep your memory alive for our five kids, babe.

"Devastated for you."

His eldest daughter Georgia had pinned a card and a teddy bear to a lamppost on the corner of Wrenbury Street with the message "World’s best dad".

A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said:"Mr Molyneux was a father of five and a family man who was well-liked in the area.

"We he was involved in an earlier argument with a group of four males on Holt Road at around 9pm.

"We are also appealing to anyone who may have seen this argument taking place to come forward."

Detectives were awaiting the results of a Home Office post mortem to establish the exact cause of death.

They are two are aged 19 and 28 and from West Derby, a 19-year-old from Kirkby and a 21-year-old from Stockbridge Village.
