Police are offering a £10,000 reward in a bid to trap the killer of a father-of-four on what would have been his 50th birthday.
Joey Peloe, was aged 45, when he was shot as he answered a knock at the door of his home in Speke, Liverpool on 28th December 2004.
Merseyside Police is now offering a bounty of £10,000 from the public purse to anyone who provides information that secures a conviction.
Joey was blasted in the chest at close range by a lone gunman. He managed make his way to Speke police station, where he was given first aid by the officer on duty, and later by paramedics.
He was taken to Whiston hospital where he died in the early hours of the following morning.
Police have previously appealed for a potential witness to come forward and detectives are still keen to trace him.
The man was seen talking to Joey outside his address shortly after 11.30pm on the night of his death - within half an hour his being shot.
The man is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s and about 5ft 8in tall. The man may well hold information that is vital to the enquiry.
The dead man's family are marking what should have been his 50th birthday on 23rd June 2009.
Flyers are being posted through letterboxes about the reward and asking for information.
Joey's sister Sharon Barlow said: "Joey enjoyed life and he was always there to help people.
"We want to know why he was killed as we've never been given a reason. It's been four-and-a-half years and we've not had closure."
Det Supt Ian Mulcahey said: "We are particularly keen to talk to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, both on 28 December 2004, and in the days leading up to it, to come forward and help us with our enquires.
"We would particularly like to speak to the man who was with Mr Peloe outside his home on the night of his death.
"We firmly believe that the answers lie within the local community and someone knows who is responsible for this terrible act, which has left a family devastated.
"It's not too late to search your conscience and come forward."
Officers are distributing leaflets to coincide with this anniversary appealing for information.
