Rollerblading OAP Geoff Dornan who has been battling for his right to skate down residental and shopping streets has now backed out of an appeal.

The pensioner from Southport was due to appear before an appeal court judge today.

But Geoff, who had vowed to overturn the magistrates’ ruling in October, announced his dramatic decision less than 24 hours ahead of his Liverpool Crown Court date.

On October 3, 2008, Mr Dornan, 71, was slapped with £2,092 in costs and court charges after being found guilty of breaking by-laws in Southport's Chapel Street.

Mr Dornan, who had widely publicised his fight to overturn Sefton Council’s legal victory at appeal, said his change of heart was the result of advice from his solicitor.

If he had gone on to lost the appeal, Mr Dornan’s total legal costs and fines were likely to total more than £7,000.
