Sword wielding slasher movie 'Kill Bill' was brought to life in Liverpool as a vicious turf war between two Chinese gangs spilled onto the streets.
In bloodthirsty scenes mirroring the Quentin Tarantino film, around 40 men carring machetes and samurai swords clashed inside a diner in China Town.
The violence erupted at the Chilli Chilli restaurant on Nelson Street, after two gangs met to discuss a possible truce between the feuding mobs.
After closing time, the two gangs were sat drinking together before discussions started to get heated and a brawl began.
Spilling onto Nelson Street outside the restaurant, passers by looked on in amazement as the gangs slashed and stabbed each other in scenes similar to the 2003 martial arts flick.
Helpless to stop the fight and fearing for their lives, staff from the restaurant hid in the cellar as the martial arts melee left blood splattered on the floor and walls.
Merseyside Police confirmed it is investigating an incident of violent disorder at the Chilli Chilli restaurant but it is still unclear if anyone was fatally injured.
A police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to reports of a large scale disturbance involving a number of Chinese men at 4.30am.
"It is believed that a fight broke out inside the restaurant and moved out on to the street and as a result a number of cars were damaged.
"When officers arrived at the scene the offenders had fled.
"It is believed that some of those involved in the incident may have been injured, but no-one believed to have been involved in the disturbance was left at the scene.
In charge of the investigation, DCI Tim Keelan, said: "This was a particularly violent incident and we are determined to trace those who were involved.
"We believe the offenders were in possession of a number of weapons including knives and hammers.
"The staff at the restaurant were completely intimidated by what happened and were distressed by the ordeal.
"We will not tolerate violence on our streets and we are determined to seek out those who were involved and I am appealing to anyone who has any information which could help us with our inquiries to ring us immediately."
Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which could help them with their inquiries to contact St Anne Street CID on 0151 777 4064, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
