Blackpool has sexed up its image after turning to YouTube in a bid to add a little 'Ooh La La' to its appeal.

The famous seaside resort is hoping a new advert posted on the broadcast website will give the town a more sophisticated feel to French visitors holidaying in the UK.

Around 10 million people currently visit Blackpool every year and the council hopes the promotional film will swell those numbers even further.

The Lancashire resort is currently undergoing a multi-million pound redevelopment with newly built shops, hotels and restaurants along with a £220m Talbot Gateway project planned for 2011.

Artistically filmed, the 90-second ad initially looks to be set in a cafe in Paris before the camera reveals the setting of the seaside town.

It focuses on a French woman and her English boyfriend strolling around the town's attractions before Lancashire hot pot is ordered in a deep French accent.

Titled 'J'aime La Tour', the piece includes images of the town's famous tower, trams and the Pleasure Beach fairground.

Director of tourism for Blackpool Council, Helen France, said: "Often we get French visitors stopping off on their way to places like Edinburgh, Stratford or London.

“We hope the film will encourage them to come to Blackpool and stay for the break rather than using it as a stop-off.”

"Oui, love, oui." Charming advert. Love Blackpool, nothing like grimy sex shops, wind, rain, fish and chips and penny arcades.
