
Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has become the latest in a long line of Merseyside footballers targeted by thieves.
The home of the South African international was raided on Saturday afternoon as the midfielder lined up to face Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park.
Officers were called to Pienaar's address in the plush area of Woolton at around 14.30.
A 41-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and bailed pending further enquiries.
It is yet clear what property was taken and if anyone was at home at the time of the break in.
Pienaar, 27 is the 10th Merseyside footballer to be targeted while playing for his club. Others include Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, and fellow reds Lucas, Dirk Kuyt and Pepe Reina.
A police spokesperson said: "Detectives are appealing for information following a burglary at an address in Woolton on Saturday.
"Officers were called to the address just before 2.30pm and discovered the
house had been broken in to.
"At this stage of the investigation it is unknown what property has been taken.
"Three white men were seen leaving the property with their faces covered and officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Woolton Road area to come forward.
"Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene and house-to-house enquires are taking place.
