Four injured in West Derby shootings

Police are appealing for witnesses as four people were injured during three firearms incidents in the West Derby area.

In the first incident three people were injured when two people on a motorbike fired shots at the Sefton Arms pub on Mill Lane on Saturday night.

In a separate incident another offender on a motorbike shot a security guard in the leg at the Hare and Hounds pub on Mill Lane.

The offenders in the first incident also fired a gun at the West Derby pub.

The two on the motorbike had ridden away from the Sefton Arms along Utting Avenue, before they fired the gun at the West Derby pub. No-one was injured in that incident.

The three men who were injured as they were leaving the Sefton Arms were treated in hospital after being struck with shotgun pellets and have since been released.

The man injured at the Hare and Hounds was shot in the leg and was kept in hospital for treatment.

Supt Jon Roy, from Merseyside Police, appealed for any witnesses come forward.

He said: "Four people were injured as a result of these incidents and we are fortunate that no-one was killed.

"The people who are responsible for these despicable attacks showed a total disregard for anyone who may have been drinking in those pubs, or walking near to them, and they need to be caught."

He said there was currently no clear motive for the shootings.

A number of roads have been cordoned off in the area while forensic examinations are carried out. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.

Anyone with information can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
