Plans to create a reconstruction of Madeleine McCann's disappearance have been scrapped since the Tapas Seven declined to take part.

Police wanted Maddie's parents, Gerry and Liverpool-born Kate, to return to the resort of Praia da Luz with their pals to re-enact events from the night of May 3 last year.

But Portuguese detectives pulled the plug on the event saying it would only go ahead if all nine were there.

The plan was to re-enact the groups movements leading up to the discovery that the three-year-old was missing.

But the Tapas Seven have all refused to return to the Algarve indicating they consider the exercise is pointless.

The seven are said to have reservations about the value of the reconstruction as it is not to be televised and want to know 'Why now, more than one year on?'

The Tapas Seven are Dr Russell O’Brien, 36,and his partner Jane, 37, Dr Matthew Oldfield, 37, his wife Rachael, 36, David Payne, 41, his wife Fiona, 34, and her mother Dianne Webster.

The groups refusal to cooperate has not helped with the relations between the police and the McCanns, who were made "arguidos" - official suspects in the case, in September.
