Supermarket giant Tesco is to sell the Hillsborough CD which is to honour those who died in the 1989 disaster.
5,000 copies of The Fields of Anfield Road are to hit shelves tonight across 22 stores in the Merseyside region, just 24 hours before the deadline for counting records for this weeks chart positions.
The CD, which contains 4 tracks in total, has been in huge demand since it went on sale last week and HMV stores yesterday received a further 4,000 copies in store and 6,000 to order online. It also downloadable on iTunes.
Recorded by city musicians such as John Power of the La's and Cast fame, Peter Hooton of The Farm, with vocal backing by famous ex-players and families of the disaster victims.
The latest version of the single contains a new verse which calls for justice for the Hillsborough victims.
The Kop track currently stands No 16 in the charts, but fans are hoping they can boostit into pole position this Sunday.
Liverpool's Lord Mayor Councillor Steve Rotheram made the plea to the supermarket giant to help with sales of the CD.
All profits go to the victims families who are urging the government to review files in a bid for full inquiry as to what exactly happened on April 15 1989.
Councillor Rotheram, who swapped his Leppings Lane ticket 15 minutes before the game began, said: ''I can't think of a better way to celebrate the lives of the 96 people who died so needlessly that day than for this song to break the top 10 and hopefully make it to No 1 in the week we mark the 20th anniversary of the disaster.
''To have Tesco's support is fantastic. As they famously say, every little helps and every CD sold or download made will be a great gesture of support to the families in their pursuit of the truth.''
The 'Fields of Anfield Road' taken from Fields of Athenry by Peter St. John is sung by The Liverpool Collective featuring the Kop Choir. The CD was produced by Ken Nelson who has produced Coldplay and also features tracks from Elvis Costello and Pete Wylie.
Trevor Hicks of the Hillsborough Family Support group said: "We welcome and fully support the 'Fields of Anfield Road' CD and are honoured that it is being produced in commemoration of our loved ones.
"Some of our members actually sing on it and we think it is a great way to bring musical talent, football talent, a specially adapted Kop Anthem and the wider 'Liverpool Family' together in an entertaining but respectful way. Well done Lord Mayor and all the musicians, technicians, footballers - in fact everyone involved."
More than 30,000 people attended a moving memorial at Anfield on April 15th where the Lord Mayor presented the CD to club officials.
The song was played at the ceremony and has been backed by reds manger Rafael Benitez.
Mr Benitez said: "I was lucky enough to be at the launch of the single and I think it is fantastic.
"My message to our fans is to go out and buy it because it's for a very, very good cause.
"We must never forget the Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough."
