Liverpool Crown court also heard how Barton finally admitted to friends that he suffers from an alcohol addiction and despises himself when drunk.
Barton and his cousin admitted to the probation officer the amount they drunk on the night of the attack.
Barton claimed to have drank 10 pints and five bottles of beer while Nadine drank three bottles of wine to herself.
His brother Anthony claimed he had not touched a drop all evening which the judge found remarkable but there was no evidence to state otherwise.
In reference statements by Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan, and head of Sporting Chance clinics Peter Kay, they claimed the star was an alcoholic but treatment has worked.
Kevin Keegan wrote: "I have known Joey for a very long time since I was the manager at Manchester City.
"If I'd have been asked to provide a positive reference before meeting him again at Newcastle I would have struggled to do so.
"I have noticed a massive change in him and he has now taken stock of his life.
"He has my full support and I have no hesitation in saying there really has been an incredible change in him for the better."
Having monitored Barton since his release from prison Peter Kay from the sporting chance clinics claims the player has not touched alcohol and hates himself when he drinks.
Watching proceedings from the public gallery Mr Kay's reference read: "Joey has realised he suffers from an addiction to alcohol.
"He is a man that cannot drink in the future.
"He has been alcohol free since leaving prison and has shown shame and remorse for what he has done.
"Joey despises the person he becomes with drink inside him."
