
An asian doctor was singled-out for a race hate attack by a gang of hoodie thugs at a Merseyside hospital.
The 28-year-old doctor was punched and kicked outside the casualty unit of Southport and Formby Distict General Hospital who began punching and kicking him and 22-year-old male relative.
The two victims suffered minor injuries in the attack that happened on Friday night.
Police are appealing for information on the attack that happened outside Southport and Formby District General Hospital.
Two youths aged 16 and 17 and two men aged 18 and 20, all from the Southport area were arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and affray.
A spokesman for Southport & Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust said: "We can confirm that the police responded to an incident in the Accident & Emergency Department when two people were attacked by a group of youths.
"One of those attacked is a doctor at the Trust, the other is one of their relatives, and both sustained injuries as a result.
"The Trust will be cooperating fully with the police investigation and to commend our staff in the A&E who acted swiftly and properly in a very difficult situation."
A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "We are treating this incident as a racially motivated hate crime.
"We are keen to speak to anybody who witnessed the incident either outside of the hospital or in the A&E department."
