The parents of murdered Liverpool school boy Rhys Jones have been forced to wait another agonising 24 hours to hear the fate of the seven accused.

After five days of deliberation, the jury were still unable to submit a final verdict and were sent home for the evening by judge Mr Justice Steven Irwin.

Dressed in a smart grey suit and white shirt Stephen Jones held his wife Melanie's hand as they entered court expecting a verdict today.

Accused of killing Everton fan, Rhys, 18-year-old Sean Mercer who allegedly shot the boy in August last year outside the Fir Tree pub in Croxteth.

Another six accused, including the teenager's mother are being tried on counts of assisting the offender and perverting the course of justice.

Parents Stephen, 45 and Melanie, 41 are expected back at Liverpool Crown Court tomorrow for what they are hoping will be a final decision.
