Liverpool law firm Weightmans showed its commitment to the local community when it funded five Merseyside charities to subscribe to Localgiving.com.
Localgiving.com is a new website which provides grassroots community groups with an online presence, allowing them to receive donations electronically and publicise volunteering opportunities. The project is facilitated locally by the Community Foundation for Merseyside who hold the annual Spirit of Merseyside Awards to celebrate achievements in the local community.
Following the awards, Weightmans saw an opportunity to contribute to the success of the award winners by funding their subscription to Localgiving.com. Having this online presence will allow these groups to raise their profile, carry out fundraising activities and ultimately help them to become more sustainable in an era of funding cuts.
Weightmans’ involvement is a perfect example of how the private sector can contribute to the strengthening of the voluntary sector, ultimately leading to more prosperity and opportunities all around.
Ian Evans, Senior Partner at Weightmans said: “We were delighted to add to the success of this year’s Spirit of Merseyside Awards by making this contribution to the very worthy winners. We hope that having a presence on Localgiving.com will enable them to make an even greater difference in their local community.”
Lee Pennington, Centre Manager at The Open Door Centre in Liscard, said: “Localgiving.com is a really inventive idea that will hopefully become an invaluable funding source for The Open Door Centre. It gives people an easy way to support causes in their local area and also gives us a great platform to promote separate projects which we have coming up.
“The fact that we are receiving the service free of charge from Weightmans, following our recent successes at the Spirit of Merseysde Awards, is fantastic and will hopefully have a real positive impact upon the centre and our beneficiaries in the long term.”
Spirit of Merseyside Awards winners who have been aided by Weightmans are:
The Parent Hub
The Open Door Centre
