Liverpool-region teen arrested over dangerous driving after woman is killed

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman was hit by a car and died.

The woman, 34, was struck by a silver Ford car in Southport, Merseyside at about 4.30am on Saturday morning.

She was taken to hospital from the accident spot on Town Lane, but later died from her injuries.

Her next of kin were notified after she was formally identified.

The 17-year-old man, from Formby, Merseyside, was taken to a police station on Merseyside for questioning where he remains.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a 17-year-old man from Formby has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

"He has been taken to a police station on Merseyside for questioning."
