Twinkle-toed football favourite Robbie Savage greeted Alzheimer’s Society volunteers at the Echo Arena when the Strictly Come Dancing tour tangoed into Liverpool.
Volunteers collected more than £430 for the charity on the two-night tour visit and the former midfielder, who is an ambassador for Alzheimer’s Society, called by to thank them for their time and effort.
Robbie said:'I've faced a lot of challenges on the pitch but watching my father live with dementia has been the biggest challenge of my life.
‘As an ambassador for Alzheimer's Society I'd like to thank everyone who has donated and helped people living with dementia.
‘The money raised will go a long way to helping people live a better life with dementia.'
Alzheimer’s Society locality manager Anne-Marie Cagliarini said
‘It is fantastic that Robbie has helped raise the profile of Alzheimer’s Society through his charity work and it was great to get the chance to thank him personally, as well as swap a few moves!’
All the money raised will go to the Alzheimer’s Society Befriending Appeal to fund visits offering befriending and companionship to people with dementia in Merseyside. The money raised will fund more than 70 visits.
Alzheimer’s Society is running a competition to win a signed Robbie Savage autobiography. To be in with a chance of winning, visit http://www.facebook.com/alzheimerssocietyuk
