A brave Liverpool gran fought off a vicious Bull Mastiff dog in a bid to save her own pet dog from a violent park attack.
Elizabeth Tozeland, 70, had to punch the ferocious animal several times in the melee which she says has left her "nerves shot."
Elizabeth, from Crosby, who has four grandchildren, was in a park walking Suki - a four-year-old shar pei - when a bull mastiff, which was accompanied by a man who had two other dogs, lunged towards her.
The dog pounced on Suki before swinging her around and attacking her stomach while Elizbeth jumped back in shock not knowing whether to run or save her beloved pet.
"The man just stood there and watched from a distance and then all hell
broke loose, fur was flying off and I could see the puncture wounds as
it sunk its teeth into Suki," she said.
"The bull mastiff had its jaws around her waist so I tried to pull it
off but there was no chance it was budging.
"I tried to put my hand in its mouth to pull the bull mastiff off but it
still wasn't moving then the man shouted at me 'leave your dog to fight
her own battles'.
"This annoyed me even more so I started to batter the bull mastiff,
punching it on its head and after about five or six punches it finally
let go.
"My hand was swollen and my fingers were black but that's not the worst
of the damage.
"I feel like I haven't been the same woman since it happened - my nerves
are shot.
"I want people to watch out in case the same happens to them."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that we were
called about a dog being bitten by another dog by a 70-year-old lady on
January 5.
"A police community support officer spoke to the complainant and advised
the lady that no criminal offence had been committed and no police
action can be taken.
"A description of the owner of the three dogs has been circulated so
that if traced he can be advised about precautions he can take while
walking his dogs."
