
A Merseyside shipbuilding firm is to be prosecuted over the death of a welder who became trapped while driving a forklift truck.
Robert Dunroe, 62, from Wirral, was killed while operating a forklift at Cammell Laird on 18th August 2010 when he was crushed against a lifting beam used on a crane.
His employer, Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Ltd, is being prosecuted following an investigation into his death.
The company has been charged with breaching Section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The charge relates to failing to ensure the safety of employees.
The first hearing is due to take place at Wirral Magistrates’ Court in Birkenhead on 2nd February 2012.
