Police have arrested a man accused of racially abusing Oldham Athletic's Tom Adeyemi.

An investigation was launched after Friday night's FA Cup third-round game at Anfield.

The 20-year-old, on loan from Norwich City, was consoled by Liverpool players Dirk Kuyt and Steven Gerrard after nearly breaking down in tears.

The Latics' defender claims someone shouted a racial slur at him while he collected the ball for a goal kick in front of the Kop.

Merseyside Police have reviewed CCTV footage of the incident, and have now arrested a 20-year-old man, from Aintree.

A police spokesperson said: "Merseyside Police can confirm that a 20-year-old man from the Aintree area of Merseyside has been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence following an incident at Anfield on Friday evening."

He remains in police custody.
