A charity that was set up to help the homeless has been recognised for its great work at the System One Travelcards 'Big Day Out' competition.
The Mustard Tree, an award winning charity which offers food, shelter and advice for homeless and vulnerable people in Greater Manchester, received a cash prize of £350 after members of the community nominated them for the award.
The money was used to treat the charity's 13 volunteers to a day out in Llandudno to celebrate their success.
Lydia Chan, communications officer at The Mustard Tree, said: "Our volunteers devote their time to looking after other people, so we really appreciate the money System One has given us, which has provided us with the opportunity to look after them for a change and show our thanks for the work they do.
"Knowing that we won thanks to the support from the local community made the prize even more special to us. We are grateful that people recognise the work that we do in the region."
The 'Big Day Out' competition was launched earlier this year to highlight the work charities do in their communities.
The final winner was judged by a public vote and announced on Facebook.
Gradyn Thompson, general manager System One Travelcards, said: "Many vital community organisations in Greater Manchester are struggling to cover costs in the tough economic climate. So our aim with the 'Big Day Out' was for System One to give some of these groups the opportunity to enjoy a fun day out."
