Liverpool region law firm GT Law has signed ex-professional footballer Graham Shaw to head up its new sports management division.
The 44-year-old lawyer joins the national firm from Stockport County where he was Chief Executive.
GT Law Director Gordon Tucker said they were delighted to have landed Graham and are excited at what he can bring to the company: "GT Law is already one of leading law firms in the UK specialising in personal injury. Graham’s appointment means we can extend our friendly, jargon-free approach to sports professionals.
"Graham was well respected as a player and as a football administrator. It is this experience and his legal qualifications which mean he is well placed to advise about possible pitfalls and ensure clients get the fairest deal."
Shaw's playing career spanned 11 years and saw him make almost 300 appearances in the Football League for teams like Stoke City, Preston North End, Plymouth Argyle and Rochdale.
He says he is looking forward to providing the kind of service he wished he'd had as a professional athlete: "I wish there had been someone fighting my corner when I was a professional. Of course professional sport has changed and now expert advice is the norm rather than the exception
"We already represent a number of sports-people who recognise the importance of having a lawyer who is a former professional footballer looking after them."
