Bond star Daniel Craig calls for Facebook studies in schools

James Bond actor Daniel Craig reckons Facebook studies should be made a part of the school curriculum to protect children from predators on the internet.

The 007 star admits worrying about his daughter's online chatting habits and believes specialist social networking lessons is the only way to warn them of the dangers.

With more than 100 million users Facebook has become the world's largest social web portal with each user logging on around 199 minutes on average every day.

And the father-of-one reckons every parent worries about internet risks and he is no different with his teenage daughter Ella.

The Wirral-born BAFTA nominee married Scottish actress Fiona Loudon in 1992 having their only child the same year before divorcing in 1994.

Daniel, 40 said: "As like any parent of a child using the internet, I worry for their safety.

"My daughter is online quite a lot as like many other kids and I believe it should be made a bigger part of their education.

"We should be teaching Facebook studies in schools.

"The internet plays a massive part in everyday life and children need to be aware of the dangers.

"If information is going to be shared with the whole world online then the only way to protect children is to make them understand the implications.

"It will be near impossible to stop kids using sites like Facebook so we need to teach them how to use them safely and this should be done in schools."

Internet Psychologist Graham Jones disagrees with the Bond star and reckons it is the parents that need to brush up on their internet skills to keep the kids safe.

Mr Jones said: "It's a common complaint from parents that they are worried about their children chatting over the internet and more needs to be done to protect them.

"The actual problem is parents do not know enough about the internet and the websites their kids are looking at.

"If a child is regularly logging on to a site such as Facebook then it makes sense for the worried parent to sign up to the site themselves to get a better understanding.

"Schools constantly use the internet so a lesson added to the curriculum does make sense but the pupils could probably teach the lessons better than the teachers.

"If a parent wanted to protect their child from busy traffic they would teach it how to cross a road. They wouldn't leave it up to a school.

"This is the same principle. If they are worried about the internet they should learn how to use it and pass the information on to their child."
