Liverpool FC fans are being urged by North West Air Ambulance not to destroy their unwanted replica shirts with Fernando Torres’ name on the back.
The charitable organisation has teamed up with Radio Merseyside in a bid to encourage supporters to boost their fundraising by donating their jerseys, or any other surplus memorabilia, for recycling.
Emotions ran high in the city when the Spaniard completed his move to Chelsea, resulting in one fan burning his shirt in front of television cameras on transfer deadline day.
But charity chief executive, Lynda Brislin, hopes others will not be following suit.
She said: “There must be thousands of Liverpool fans - young and old - with their Torres shirts who are now wondering what on earth to do with them!
“We’re asking supporters not to destroy them, but to hand them over to our charity.
“We’ll put them to good use, and not a single item of clothing will be wasted.”
It costs the NWAA almost four million pounds a year to keep their two helicopters functional throughout the North West region, responding to around five emergencies a day.
However, their charitable status means they are reliant upon donations.
Merchandise can be posted directly to the NWAA head office in Knowsley, or handed in at one of their charity shops in Southport, Garstang or Lytham.
You can also drop any contributions in at the Radio Merseyside reception desk.
