A man has been arrested over the Liverpool region rugby stadium assault which left a fan in a coma in hospital.

David Singer, 32, of Halifax, had gone to watch his team play Featherstone Rovers at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington on 26th September.

But as he returned to his coach in the busy car park after the game, he was savagely attacked and left with serious head injuries.

A 26-year-old man from Pontefract has been arrested on suspicion of assault and violent disorder, which left the ambulance technician in critical condition.

He will be quizzed by detectives on Thursday and remains in police custody.

Police believe Mr Singer was attacked by an opposing Featherstone fan who was spotted provoking Halifax supporters shortly before the assault.
