Neighbours living next door to a mother charged with the attempted murder of her son have told how they were woken by "loud screams."
The boy, who suffered injuries to his chest and shoulder, was rushed to hospital by paramedics in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Thirty-three-year-old Tracey Wickham was arrested at the scene on Brentwood Street, Wallasey and has been charged with attempted murder.
Shocked neighbours on the two-up two-down terraced street revealed the household was "unruly" and told how they heard screams at around 5am.
The boy, named locally as Adam, is said to be recovering from the 'superficial' injuries he sustained.
A neighbour said: "There was an almighty commotion at around 5am.
"I wear a hearing aid but the screams were so loud they woke me up.
"It was muffled by the walls but I could tell it was a child screaming.
"The next thing we knew there were police cars and an ambulance outside.
"I had no idea the boy had been stabbed.
"It's shocking."
Tracey Wickham appeared before Wirral Magistrates Court today (THURS).
