The parents of a teenage Muslim 'honour killing' victim have been arrested on suspicion of her murder.
Shafilea Ahmed was 17 when she went missing from her Warrington home in September 2003.
Her decomposed remains were found four months later in the River Kent in Cumbria.
Enquiries into her disappearance revealed she had attempted suicide by drinking bleach after a visit to Pakistan to meet a prospective husband who she had refused to marry.
On Thursday, Shafilea's dad Iftikhar, 50, and mum Farzana, 47, were arrested at their home in Great Sankey. They are currently being questioned by police.
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman confirmed: "A 50 year old man and a 47 year old woman from Warrington were arrested early this morning on suspicion of the murder of Shafilea Ahmed in 2003."
No-one has ever been charged with her murder although the South Cumbria coroner ruled in 2008 she had been unlawfully killed.
Last month, Shafilea's sister Alisha, 22, was arrested and bailed in connection with a robbery at the family home, in which three men broke in and tied up Farzana and her children before fleeing with cash and jewellery.
