A new Liverpool state-of-the-art medical centre is of the "highest standard", an NHS chief has said.
The £34 million surgical and outpatients centre at University Hospital Aintree will welcome its first patients later this month as services are transferred from Walton Hospital.
Day surgery and the ophthalmology services will move into their new home in the Elective Care Centre (ECC) on Monday, Monday 23rd August.
This will be followed by the transfer of the Breast Service from Walton Hospital to the ECC on Monday, 20th September.
The rest of the services from Walton Hospital will follow from mid-November, with the moves completed in December.
While most services from Walton Hospital will transfer to the ECC, some will move to other locations. The physiotherapy centre at University Hospital Aintree is being expanded and a new £1.5 million Diabetes Centre is being built for outpatient services.
James Birrell, Chief Executive of Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs both hospitals, said: “The move of our services to one hospital will help us improve the quality and range of clinical care for patients. Walton Hospital has given great service over the years, but patients deserve purpose-built facilities which meet the highest modern standards.
“The ECC has been designed around patients and their privacy and dignity. At the same time, it will give clinical teams cutting-edge technology. This means that we can expand the range of day surgery we offer. Clinicians will also have access to the most modern IT systems to help them offer the best possible patient care.”
The ECC is currently holding outpatient clinics from University Hospital Aintree to enable a major upgrade of that department. They move back to their permanent location on Monday, 15th November. Other services from Walton Hospital will then begin transferring across to the University Hospital Aintree site, finishing before the end of the year.
Mr Birrell added: “We have had very positive feedback from the patients already using the ECC, and I’d like to thank all the staff involved for working so hard to make this a smooth process. Patients’ appointment letters clearly state the location of their clinic appointments. If anyone has any queries then all they need to do is to contact the number on their appointment letter.”
The hospital’s new 1,250 space Multi-Storey Car Park has been built next to the ECC, and patients using the ECC are being advised that this is the most convenient parking for them.
