A major power cut has hit large parts of Liverpool city centre.
Several postcodes in the Georgian Quarter district were plunged into darkness on Sunday evening, impacting residents and local businesses alike.
The Pen Factory restaurant on Hope Street confirmed that the outage had forced them to close early on the final weekend of trading before Christmas.
Others pubs and bars in the immediate area were impacted by what Scottish Power claimed was an ‘unplanned’ cut which is set to last until 10.30pm.
Hardman Street, Mount Pleasant, Brownlow Hill and Rodney Street are among the other busy areas which have reported losing power.
“There is an unplanned power cut affecting the L1 and L7 postcode areas of Liverpool,” read a service update on Scottish Power’s website.
“We have engineers on the way. Once they arrive, they will get straight to work on investigating the fault. We are aiming to have your power restored by 22/12/2024, 22:27.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”
