Liverpool’s Isla Gladstone Conservatory is inviting members of the public to celebrate its first birthday in style with a special anniversary event for local residents.
The venue, which is situated in Stanley Park, will mark its one-year anniversary with a free event at the historic conservatory for all local residents on Thursday 12th August.
The Isla Gladstone Conservatory opened in August 2009 following the regeneration of Stanley Park. The Victorian conservatory, which is named after textiles designer, Isla Gladstone, had lay derelict for 30 years before it underwent a massive £12 million restoration programme to restore it to its former glory.
One year on, the sympathetic restoration has resulted in the conservatory becoming one of the North West’s most exclusive and unique wedding and event venues. Kemps Bistro, which is situated beneath the conservatory, also offers a popular and memorable meeting place for the community.
The venue was recently selected as one of four UK venues to host a Topshop Bandstand Picnic in the Park for the Teenage Cancer Trust and has been chosen by charities such as the Roy Castle Lung Centre Foundation, People First and the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce to host gala balls.
Managing Director, Gemma Hindley has also been recognised for her entrepreneurship after winning a Daily Post Award for Woman Achieving in Business. The venue itself was also shortlisted for a Daily Post Award in the Liverpool Vision Investment of the Year category.
Gemma, 32, said: “I’m elated with the success of the business since it opened one year ago. The venue has become a popular visitor attraction because of its superb location and historic links with the Gladstone family. From July to December 2009, the venue achieved 15,240 visitors and these figures have now almost doubled in 2010.”
She added: “We would now like to thank the local community for all their support by hosting an event which all local residents can attend and celebrate the success of the conservatory together with us.”
Councillor Tim Moore, Cabinet member for the Environment on Liverpool City Council, commented: "The Isla Gladstone Conservatory has been a huge success since it was restored to its former glory. It has rightly re-established itself as the centre-piece of Stanley Park, and it is great news that it is proving so popular."
The Isla Gladstone first anniversary event will begin at 7pm with a presentation by Managing Director, Gemma Hindley and drinks and canapés for members of the public. There will also be live entertainment and music throughout the night.
The venue will also be hosting a first anniversary fun day on Monday 30th August from 11am to 4pm. There will be various activities throughout the day including Hot Air Balloon rides, Climbing Wall, cooking demonstrations and much more. The event is free but there will be a small fee for the activities. Kemps Bistro will also be open throughout the day for food and refreshments.
