Schools across Anfield descended upon Liverpool’s historic Isla Gladstone Conservatory to unite for a one-day festival to celebrate all things Latin.

The Arts Festival, which was organised by Anfield Infants School, Anfield Junior School, All Saints Catholic Primary and Pinehurst Primary School, featured a selection of artwork, dance performances, drama and music inspired by the theme of Spain.

Over 600 parents, pupils and visitors arrived in the afternoon sunshine to see performances of La Raspa, a high energy Mexican dance, and the Flamenco which originates from Southern Spain, by Year One and Two classes.

Crowds were also treated to an exhibition of artwork, including paintings, pottery and crafts, that were created during a series of art workshops at the schools in June, and an acoustic set by Spanish musicians Francisco and Freddie from ‘All Things Latin’.

Wendy Beaumont and Kerri Goman, Creative Arts Directors at Anfield Infant and Anfield Junior Schools, commented: “We were delighted to team up with the Isla Gladstone Conservatory to showcase the artistic talents of children in the community and were so proud to see how all their hard work in the last month has come together.”

Other highlights that took place throughout the afternoon included a selection of professional Spanish dances performed by Clare Roberts and Gary Woods from dance company, Dance Passion, along with a drama performance by LIPA students and a performance by Salsa dancer and LIPA graduate, Hayley Williams.

Gemma Hindley, Managing Director at The Isla Gladstone Conservatory who recently won the LDP Women Achieving in Business award, added: “We were thrilled at the turn out yesterday and loved being able to share in the artistic talents of the community.

"Liverpool is a very artistic city and it was a brilliant way for the children to showcase their work in the countdown to the city’s Biennial festival in September.”
