Children enjoying the snow were amazed to find two nuns high on Christmas spirits joining in the fun and games.

But the two "sisters" frolicking in the snow turned out to be pals returning from a night out in fancy dress.

Friends Natalie Evans and Alice Purkiss, from Liverpool, were forced to walk home in their hired outfits after a party when their car broke down.

Undaunted, the girls decided to brave the journey home on foot... still sporting their party gear.

The two game girls could not resist a sledge ride when they passed Camp Hill in Woolton, Liverpool.

Student Natalie, 24, said: "We had to walk home because the freezing weather meant that my car wouldn't start.

"We only had the outfits that we went out in last night so we had to wear the habits home.

"It could have been embarassing but it is the party season so we just thought it was funny.

"When we passed Camp Hill there were lots of people enjoying the snow, so we decided to join in.

"A kiddy offered to lend us his sledge so we could join in the fun although we got some strange looks."

Alice, 23, a travel agent said: "We don't make a 'habit' out of dressing like this.

"But it was worth it just to see the looks on the faces of the kids when we started to throw snowballs at them."
