Merseyside Police are inviting members of the public to an Open Day of events designed to encourage young people to "join a team not a gang."

The event, to be held at the Mather Avenue Training Centre on Sunday 27 September, will allow anyone to meet Police Officers and members of other organisations such as CAFE Group, Connextions, local youth centres, Liverpool Youth Service, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and the Youth Offending Team.

It promises to be a fun day of activities, music and the arts where young people and families from across the region can come along and learn more about activities that are going on in their area, and get crime prevention advice.

There will be a variety of police vehicles available for people to have a look at, from cars to quad bikes and push bikes. Police horses will also be on hand and there will also be a demonstration of the taser by officers from the Matrix Team.

The day will feature dance troops, martial arts demonstrations, live music, live stage acts and the Fitness Junkies Display Team. There will also be a multi cultural food court offering Jamaican, Hindu, Chinese and Greek food, drinks and smoothies.

Sergeant Dave Burke from Merseyside Police Firearms Department said: "This is a great opportunity for everyone, especially young people, to come and see how one of the emergency services work.

"The Open Day will also provide people with the opportunity to meet police dogs and their handlers, see our police horses in action, and even see a Police Armed Response Vehicle up close.

"Merseyside Fire Service will also be visiting throughout the day and this gives everyone a chance to see the inside of a Fire Engine".

"Opening up the Police Training Centre gives everyone the opportunity to meet the people behind the flashing blue lights and find out a bit more about what it’s really like to work as a police officer.

"There will be stalls to promote alternative activities for young people, and by offering these activities we will hopefully reduce crime and anti social behaviour."

All are welcome to attend the Open day, on Sunday 27 September between 12pm and 5pm at Mather Avenue Training centre on Mather Avenue, Allerton.
