“All aboard the Skylark” was the cry as we boarded Liverpool’s latest attraction for an inaugural cruise of the docks.
The Yellow Boat Cruise is an alternative to the popular Duck tours - there is now a flock of four Ducks - and bookings for the Duck tour of the City and the Docks are 10% up on last year.
“This is a great achievement,” said Jerry Goldman, Managing Director of The Beatles Story and a stakeholder in The Duck Company, “Last year was Capital of Culture year and we really expected a down turn this year, but that has not been the case, bookings are up”
Alan Carter of British Waterways approached the Duck Company with the idea of running a cruise of the docks along side the Duck Tour only nine weeks ago. A vessel was quickly acquired, painted in the distinctive colour and The Yellow Boat Cruise was launched.
“The last 18 months have been a very vibrant and exciting time for British Waterways in Liverpool, the Canal Link is bringing more boats to the docks” Alan Carter went on to say “We want to increase the use of the Docks and The Yellow Boat Cruise will be a great success”
The cruise starts off from the Albert Dock, outside “Bugs World” and lasts 40 minutes. We were treated to a very lively, informative and occasionally tongue in cheek commentary by crewman Paul as we cruised the south docks. If Take your camera for some amazing photographs, especially by Leo’s Casino. This is a different view of Liverpool.
From sailing on the North Sea to the Albert Dock in 9 weeks The Yellow Boat is a welcome addition to the attractions of Liverpool. The cost of £5 per person is well worth it and family tickets are also available. Tickets can be purchased from The Yellow Duckmarine Office in Anchor Courtyard at the Albert Dock. The first tour starts at 11 a.m. and the last tour is 6 p.m. Further information can be obtained by ringing 0151 708 7799.
