Summer sports day fun at Grange and Pyramids

The traditional school sports day was recreated at a Birkenhead shopping centre as part of a free summer holiday spell of fun family events.

Mini challenges, including bean bag toss, hula hooping, space hopper jumping and egg and spoon races, helped entertain youngsters during the free day of activities at the Grange and Pyramids Shopping Centre.

With two successful challenges under their belt, the young athletes received a prize.

Derek Millar, Commercial Director for the Grange and Pyramids, said: “With the Olympics coming to a close, it was good to see lots of children getting active and testing their sport skills.

“We have put on a package of free summer holiday events to liven up the long school break. As a parent myself, I know the value of distracting children during the holidays and hopefully this has been an easy way for families to enjoy time together and get their shopping done at the same time!”

On Saturday, (August 18) there will be a free circus skills workshop with experienced trainers and a professional juggler. A week later, on August 25, dance fever will grip the shopping centre, with local groups giving displays and encouraging shoppers to put down their bags and join in the fun! All events run from 11 am to 4 pm.
