Southport Pleasureland hosts Planet Circus

Southport New Pleasureland will host one of the international circuit’s most popular circus companies later this month when the Planet Circus big top pitches at the park.

The all-human circus is known for its daredevil acts and it’s new for 2012 ‘Wow Factor’ tour is just that, featuring as it does, Europe’s youngest stunt rider, 12 year old Peter Pavlov.

Together the circus features acts from ten different nationalities inside its 500-seater big top. Circus owner, Bulgarian Pavel Pavlov, has the whole family involved, from son Peter through to daughter Emilia (15). Even American wife Tanya Mack is third generation Hoffman family circus. Says former acrobat Pavel: “We met in the circus. I worked for the boss, her dad!”

THE AMAZING, THE ASTOUNDING, THE ASTONISHING

Pleasureland owner Norman Wallis is no stranger to the circus business, his own great grandfather was dubbed ‘The Seaforth Barnum’ (a reference to the American circus legends, the world famous Barnum and Bailey). Mr Wallis’ showman forebear, Mr H J Wallis, who provided entertainment for Seaforth visitors, was given the title in his local newspaper in 1906.

He would perhaps be surprised at today’s circus shows.

Plant Circus’ young star Peter and his motorcycle – who together tackle the show’s ‘Globe of Death’ at around 60mph - featured recently on TV’s Britain’s Got Talent.

The travelling show, produced by the famous Uncle Sam's Great American Circus, tours for ten months a year and showcases spectacular acts that vary from the nail-biting to the hilarious.

Peter isn’t the only stunt-rider, and, also in the mix are muscle-bound wrestlers with more than a few tricks up their sleeves, Arron, the Prince of Balance on his perch high in the roof of the big top on a tower of moving chairs, the magic of Gary Bond and Miss Emilia on the arial rope.

BALANCE, AGILITY, BOLDNESS AND BALANCE

As well as a series of unusual acts, there is also all the classic entertainment you might expect at the circus.

Trapeze artists the Stratus Sisters will be flying high with incredible acrobatic displays on the revolving carousel while Chico Reco will be clowning around for the crowd.

Southport New Pleasureland park owner Norman Wallis said: "We are happy to welcome another family-run and family-friendly experience to Southport. Together the rides and amusements at the park and the acts in the big top deliver superb quality entertainment for everyone and we’re looking forward to the countdown to the show.”

On Tuesday 22 May for one night only, Planet Circus and UWE Wrestling will present a spectacular two hour Wrestlemania Rumble, featuring some of Europe’s biggest and best Wrestling talent.

Mark Whitney, marketing manager: "This really is a spectacular show, with some spectacular artists. We're delighted to be back in Southport with the real deal, a spectacular circus.”

The show will be on site at Southport New Pleasureland from May 23 – 27 with tickets starting at £7 for kids and £7.50 for adults. The big top booking office will be open from 9.30am to 8pm in Pleasureland’s car park.
