Staff from Dulux Decorator Centres joined together with the company’s head office team to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society by taking part in the charity’s Memory Walk event at Aintree Racecourse.

The walk, which raised £1,500, was launched by the famous Dulux Dog, who completed a two-kilometre circuit, alongside people living with dementia, their friends and families, and representatives from Dulux Decorator Centres.

Following the walk, staff from the Aintree store hosted a raffle to win Dulux Dog toys and also offered people the chance to capture a special memory of the day by posing for a picture with the real-life famous pooch, in return for a donation to the charity.

Staff from Dulux Decorator Centres in Aintree, and the company’s head office, joined 600 others to complete the five and 10k circuits, while team member Sally Jellyman and her sister, Jenny Hollinshead, also participated in a pantomime horse “Grand National”.

Mike Heyworth, Dulux Decorator Centres’ Aintree store manager, said: “We are proud to have been able to participate in the Alzheimer's Society Memory Walk. The Dulux dog enjoyed his lap and wore his finisher's medal with pride all day.

"There was a fantastic turnout to support the organisation, which is Dulux Decorator Centres’ charity of the year and we are certain that plenty of money has been raised for the worthwhile cause."

Dulux Decorator Centres has committed to a two year partnership with Alzheimer’s Society, and is aiming to raise at least £100K for the national dementia charity by April 2013. To date the company has raised over £20,000.

Jeremy Hughes, chief executive at Alzheimer’s Society, said: “It was great that so many Dulux Decorator Centres’ employees took part in Memory Walk.

“People take part in Memory Walk for a number of reasons. Some people walk to be amongst others who truly understand. Some walk to celebrate loved ones. All walk with one common goal: fighting dementia.

“The efforts of Dulux Decorator Centres’ employees are vital to us continuing our work championing the rights of people living with dementia and the millions of people who care for them.”
