Staff at MRCC Liverpool and supporters of the Save Liverpool Coastguard campaign are saying ‘thank you’ to the 5,000 people who came along to see what they do on their behalf 24hrs a day.
From the moment the doors opened at 11am, the public flocked to the Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Hall Road, Blundellsands, where throughout the day they saw demonstrations by the RNLI Hovercraft and Inshore Lifeboat from New Brighton, the Northwest Ambulance HART team, Raynet, Mersey Fire and Recue and Coastguards from Walney Island, Knott End and locally based at Crosby amongst many others.
Whilst the station was open to the public, a number of rescues were still co-ordinated by the staff on duty with, at one point, four incidents running simultaneously.
Friends and supporters of the campaign manned stands outside the threatened station and received a boost of over 3,000 signatures during the afternoon.
