Port Sunlight Summer Festival returns for its eighth successful year this Sunday 24th July.

With a range of activities happening across the and free entry to the Festival, Port Sunlight is set to attract over 15,000 visitors from around the region.

The annual festival, organised by Port Sunlight Village Trust, will feature a full programme of activities and showcase all that Wirral has to offer. A day of fun for the family, the range of activities caters to all ages and features everything from traditional fairground rides such as a classic carousel and spinning teacups to live entertainment and the very best in local food and drink.

Why not try the free samba lessons on offer for the adults while there are a selection of free activities for children to get involved with including clown workshops, Little Kickers football fun, a soft play area, and Lion’s Club games in addition to everyone’s Summer Festival favourites.

Event Manager, Nigel Chapman-Rogers commented, "we work hard to ensure that the festival celebrates the very best in family entertainment and after the roaring success we witnessed in 2010 we’re expecting this year to be more popular than ever. From traditional rides to super-tasty produce, the Festival combines the perfect mix of nostalgia and modern day pleasures".

A must for dogs lovers who enjoy showing off their beautiful pets, The Festival’s free dog show is back this year with nine fun categories, sponsored by Family Housing Association Birkenhead, after welcoming 250 local entries in 2010. Delighting the crowds with their freshly groomed coats and cute bows, the immaculate pups will be doing their best to take home that all important trophy. Why not enter your pooch and try for the ‘Best Six Legs’ or ‘Best Looky-Likey’ category?

In addition to the fun and games, Port Sunlight will be inundated with over 100 of the best local producers, including Claremont Farm, Manna Foods and Cupcake Direct, each of which will have a stall offering everything from cheese and homemade pies, to tapas and even hotdogs. Bring along a basket and fill your boots with the scrumptious offerings before taking a seat on the glorious green to enjoy your selection.

Once you’ve had your fill of these delectable treats you can relax in the manicured gardens of Port Sunlight and let yourself be entertained by a selection of local artists and acts including Arvensis String Quartet, Wirral Symphonic Wind Band, the samba dancers of Viva Brasil and Port Sunlight’s very own Lyceum Brass.

If you’re still looking for more to do look no further than the Festival’s vintage car show courtesy of Wirral Historic Vehicle Rally, who will be arriving to display their beautiful vehicles on Osborne Court Green for all to admire at 2:30pm. The historic car rally is part of an annual event that will see the cherished beauties make their way throughout Wirral, culminating in a prize giving ceremony presented by the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Moira McLaughlin at 3:30pm.

If a spot of retro fashion is more of your thing, the Pillbox Vintage Fair will be taking place in the Lyceum where you can pick up a retro piece or two. From vintage clothing for men and women to jewellery, accessories and homewares, Pillbox Vintage Fairs have sourced the finest collection from across Europe that spans the eras from 1920s flapper dresses to 1990s new rave.

With two local railway stations, located in Port Sunlight and Bebington, the organisers are hoping that even more visitors will arrive by public transport this year. Pick up your Summer Festival map at either station as well as throughout the Village to help you navigate your way around the great events taking place all day long.
