Click Liverpool were kindly invited to join thousands of spectators at the 2011 Cholmondeley Pageant of Power as it roared into life this weekend (15th-17th July) expecting up to 75,000 visitors.

Now in its fourth successful year, the 'POP' featured machinery with an estimated combined value of over £500million, hosting more than 1,200 cars on static display, while 175 racing cars and bikes tackled 2,550 laps of the Cholmondeley circuit.

With a packed programme it was hard to decide what to watch first. From Motorcycle Racing to Power Boats and Military demonstrations, we were spoilt for choice. Deciding to watch the Military Assault demonstration, we witnessed how soldiers conduct a live attack on a manned enemy position. The action was carried out just yards in front of the amazed crowd, mouths wide open in astonishment.

We watched with great anticipation as the army helicopters positioned themselves between the trees, ready to land and deploy soldiers to the battlefield where their colleagues needed support so they could complete their mission.

As the crowd grew ever larger around the action, commentators kept us informed as to what was happening at all times. To think that these brave soldiers do this for real out in war zones was awe-inspiring. I have to say that this was the highlight of the day for me, a truly eye-opening experience. For my son, Thomas, it was the chance to ride in an Army Supacat (see video!)

But, of course, you can't go to The Pageant of Power and fail to be impressed by all the fantastic motors.

From the Ariel V8 Atom, Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini, Cosworth Impreza to the older classics, Van Wall VW14, Jaguar E Type, Ford Escort MK2 and the Lotus, visitors of the Pageant were priviledged to see all these fabulous vehicles up close in one place when normally your only chance would be to glimpse them on television.

For a minimum donation of £4.00 per person, guests could travel in an Army Supacat, this is a 4 seater military high mobility vehicle which is used in Afghanistan. During the 2 minute experience, passengers travelled at speeds of approx 45 mph over the battlefields in the grounds of Cholmondeley Castle.

Thankfully, the sun broke through the rain clouds and visitors were also treated to displays in the air from Breitling Wingwalkers, World War 1 and Red Hawks, there was also a motorcross bike racetrack and a rally course.

A wonderful and very enjoyable family day out with plenty to see and do for all ages, young, old, male and female. For future reference, do make sure you wear comfy shoes for the long stretches across the lovely grounds of the castle. My only regret is missing out on the full-strength Military Tattoo accompanied by a lengthy fireworks
display last night, but we're already looking forward to next year!

9/10 Action-packed day out for all the family
