Liverpool to become a surfer's paradise

Liverpool’s historic Williamson Square is being transformed into a surfer’s paradise – thanks to a machine that replicates the motion of the ocean.

Over the school summer holidays, from 16 July until early September, sight seers and bargain seekers can try catching a wave in the very heart of Liverpool thanks to CityWave event.

The CityWave Event will be bringing a unique ‘BrushBoarding’ surf simulator, where children and adults can experience firsthand the thrill of surfing and wakeboarding whilst staying perfectly dry, even in all weathers.

Ged Gibbons, Chief Executive of City Central BID, which has devised an action packed summer and is also bringing the Helter Skelter back to Church Street, said: ‘’Summer is a very busy time for Liverpool and we always look to inject some fun into people’s lives. Last year we had a beach in Williamson Square and we thought why not take it one step further.

‘’We’d all love to go to Bondi Beach so we went and found the next best thing. BrushBoarding is just one of many attractions and events taking place in the city centre over the school holidays and to be honest there’s that much going on there really is no need to take a holiday.’’

Budding Kelly Slaters will ride the state-of-art machine pitting their wits and balance against the surface of soft spinning brushes rather than Atlantic rollers, and getting a true taste of life by the ocean.

Riding the Brush Ramp has been designed to be a great way to get fit whilst having loads of fun - improving balance and co-ordination, riders will enjoy a surfing workout in the most exciting and innovative way you could think of.

Costing £3.50 a ride, it will even provide the cool tunes, with their very own DJ playing the latest hits.
And riders and spectators will able to grab a healthy snack and smoothie in the cool beach bar café.

A CityWave event spokesman said: "We are extremely excited to be bringing the BrushBpoarding attraction to Liverpool. People are in for a real treat and our BrushBoarding surf boys and babes are going to really encourage them to take time out from shopping and catch a wave right in the heart of the city.

‘’Not only is BrushBoarding which is UK designed and created loads of fun, but it's a great way to exercise. Riders can even upload their best surfing videos onto our website citywave.co.uk and our Facebook page too - there will be prizes for the best."
