Webcam installed to watch flamingo chicks at WWT Martin Mere

A new webcam has been installed at WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre on the flamingo nest site to give the opportunity to watch eight flamingo chicks and their parents as they keep them warm, feed them crop milk and allow them to play.

The webcam can be viewed at: http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/martin-mere/live-web-cam-flamingos

Since the webcam went live during the half term, over 2000 people have enjoyed watching the footage.

Centre Manager, Andy Wooldridge, said: “Webcams have become very popular at Martin Mere and I think the flamingo webcam will prove to be just as interesting as you can see the chicks up close.

"We can now offer a service that allows visitors to take the experience home and watch either the beavers or the flamingos in the evening and we are looking forward to putting more webcams at the centre in the future.”

WWT Martin Mere is open every day from 9.30am to 5.30pm and parking is free of charge. Situated off the A59, it is signposted from the M61, M58 and M6. The Centre is also accessible via the Southport to Manchester and the Liverpool to Preston line by train from Burscough Rail Stations.

Visit the web site http://www.wwt.org.uk/martinmere to find out what’s on all year round at Martin Mere and the other eight centres.
