Young local artists were all smiles this week as they rolled up their sleeves and created their very own mini masterpieces at The Bluecoat.
It was all thanks to a generous donation from the newly re-vamped Wilkinson store, situated in St Johns Shopping Centre, Liverpool.
The Bluecoat, which provides free creative activities for families and community groups across the city, received the £500 donation from the value home and garden retailer when the store re-opened in April.
The money has been used to provide “Explore” sessions, which enable families to work with local artists and volunteers for free to make their own artwork, taking inspiration from the work in the centre’s galleries.
Bec Fearon, head of participation at The Bluecoat, said: “Without donations our programme of free art classes would be very difficult to sustain, so we are extremely grateful for Wilkinsons’ kind contribution, which has enabled us to provide activities for 150 people.”
Mark Allan, Wilkinson store manager, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support a local charity that provides free access to arts & crafts activities for so many families and community groups in the area.”
Wilkinsons sells more than 25,000 product lines, including health & beauty, cleaning products, gardening equipment and homewares, and is one of the fastest growing retailers in the country, serving 178 million customers each year.
Still a family owned firm after 80 years of trading, Wilkinsons has 353 stores across the UK, and is an active supporter of local charities, community groups and care organisations.
