Thousands of women look set to take over the streets of Liverpool on Sunday, May 8 as part of the city’s longest-established road race.
The Women’s 10k, which has took place every year since 1986 and is now organised by Run Liverpool, will both start and finish at its usual home of Sefton Park and will include a 5k race, as well as a one-mile run for children, due to their popularity in previous years.
Unveiling the 6.2 mile route, Run Liverpool said they are confident the race will attract its regular high levels of interest with more than 1,500 runners already signing up to take part in recent weeks.
Race Director, Alan Rothwell said: “The Liverpool Women’s 10k has become one of most important calendar days of the year for many runners around the region.
"Each year it continues to get bigger and better and this May’s event will be no exception. This year, a number of our participants are using the race as training for our Run Liverpool Marathon in October.
“One of the greatest benefits of this event is that women can complete this race to their own pace, alone or with friends, or even with their children. We simply can’t wait to hold the event yet again.”
The Women’s 10K and 5K race will both start at 11am from the Review Field within the park and lead participants through roads such as Croxteth Drive, Mossley Hill Drive and Greenbank Drive.
The finish line of both courses is back on the Review Field, where runners will be greeted by their families and friends.
For those running the 1k with children, they will begin their race at 10am.
Claire House Children’s Hospice and Liverpool Sunflowers are this year’s official event charities.
