A group of local kids had a flipping good time at family favourite eatery What's Cooking? in Liverpool this weekend.
Staff at the Albert Dock restaurant taught children from Hopscotch Childcare how to make American style pancakes with a homemade and healthy twist.
Playing their part for the Decade of Health and Wellbeing, the children from Hopscotch nursery learn how to stay fit and healthy and learn through a variety of different fun and interactive ways.
The initiative shares information with youngsters about being healthy and how food is a big part of an active and balanced lifestyle.
What’s Cooking? invited the children to learn how to make the pancakes which were topped with tasty and healthy alternatives.
Guy Laurenson from What’s Cooking? said: “It’s been a great day teaching the children from Hopscotch Childcare how to make pancakes.
"Teaching basic kitchen skills to children from a young age is a very important step to towards them developing these skills throughout their lives.
"Making pancakes with the whole family is so simple and lots of fun.
“Pancakes are so easy to make so there really is no need for readymade pancake mix which may contain artificial preservatives, sweeteners and colourings.
All you need is four ingredients; flour, eggs and milk with a pinch of baking powder.
"The children enjoyed their American style pancakes with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey and a dollop of natural yoghurt.”
Dressed in their own chef whites, the children were shown how to mix the pancake ingredients into a batter and then called upon their adult helpers to cook them.
However the children mastered the traditional pancake flipping with ease while the selection of fruits, honey and natural yoghurt dressed the perfect American pancake.
Owner of Hopscotch Childcare, Sue Adamson said: "Educating children about a healthy lifestyle is at the heart of what we do at Hopscotch, healthy children are happy children.
"We are committed to promoting good health to the children from a young age and we wanted to use Pancake Day as a way the children can share the message with their parents that fresh is always best.”
