Everyone’s favourite brother and sister, Charlie and Lola, in their extremely ever so wonderful stage show, are coming to the Liverpool Everyman from Saturday 12 to Tuesday 15 February. A wonderful chance to take little ones to a theatre show designed especially for them.
Charlie is 7 and Lola is 4. She adores her older brother and has an imaginary friend, Soren Lorenson. The play follows Charlie and Lola as they encounter everyday activities such as tidying their rooms and getting ready for bed. Who knew there were so many problems to overcome before going to sleep? The tigers who want their bedtime drink, Lola’s missing pyjamas – not to mention the ogre in the wardrobe!
This well-loved children’s book series was first published in 2001 and I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato went on to win the prestigious Kate Greenaway Medal for distinguished illustration in a book for children. The author, Lauren Child, has gone on sell over 3 million books in 19 countries across the globe while 80 episodes across three series have been made of Charlie and Lola by the BBC and broadcast around the world.
Charlie and Lola’s Best Bestest Play is presented by four puppeteers, with specially made puppets and the voices from the TV series.
Charlie and Lola appear as cut-out cartoon characters in the same magical 3D world they inhabit in the books and TV series. From pink milk to party rings, everything you expect is there!
Jonathan Lloyd, who adapted Charlie and Lola for the stage, said: “I was really drawn to Charlie and Lola, to the lovely situations that young audiences can recognise.
"My job was to work out how we were going to make the books and TV episodes into a play. The trick was to take some of the best stories and find a simple way to link them into a day in the life of Lola.”
